FIVE-STAR hotels in the city have decided to put precaution ahead of hasty action, as reports of Government action to prevent the spread of disease flow in.
An official with a star hotel said their guests - the majority of whom are from abroad - are not overtly concerned about reports of the avian deaths, since the disease outbreak was not restricted to India alone. But he added that the hotel was opening up channels of communication with its guests and keeping them informed of the steps being taken to check against contamination.
He said the hotel continued to prepare chicken, though they were taking care to cook chicken and even eggs well.
According to an official from the Grand Hyatt, the hotel had microbiologists who certified the quality of the meat prepared at the hotel.
Chicken dishes continue to feature on the menu of Leela as well. However, a hotel spokesperson said the hotel was taking steps to prevent against any contamination. It was sourcing its chicken stock from Venkys, and all the meat was certified for its ante and post-mortem quality. She added that the hotel had noticed a slight dip in the consumption of chicken dishes and a corresponding preference for vegetarian fare.
Le Meridien too states that all its chicken stock is certified by Government health authorities. However, the hotel has taken chicken off the buffet, but it continues to be available on the A La Carte menu.
