Politics Industry & Economy - Infrastructure Assembly to hold discussions on Lavalin on Feb 21 Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Feb. 16 THE Kerala Assembly will have separate discussions on the references in the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to the renovation of Pallivasal, Sengulam and Panniar hydel projects and augmentation of the Kuttiadi hydel scheme, both involving the Canadian firm, SNC Lavalin. The decision to hold the short-duration discussions on the two topics was taken at a meeting of the legislature party leaders convened by the Speaker, Mr Therambil Ramakrishnan, on Thursday. The discussions will take place on February 21. The decision preceded an hour-long procedural wrangle in the House. While the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) pressed for a discussion on the CAG's observations on the deal with SNC Lavalin in the report for 2004-05, the Opposition insisted that the discussions should cover the CAG's findings on the deal with SNC Lavalin for the Kuttiadi augmentation scheme contained in the report for 2003-04. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the House had decided on Wednesday not to have any discussion on the CAG's observations on the renovation of Pallivasal, Sengulam and Panniar projects.
