New Projects Marketing - Strategy GRT Regency to expand to smaller towns in South Nina Varghese
Chennai , Feb. 14 GRT Hotels and Resorts has launched its three-star hotel brand "GRT Regency" in two towns in Tamil Nadu. Further expansion is planned in smaller towns in the South, especially in places of religious and tourist interest, according to sources. The first GRT Regency opened in Madurai in December last year. This is a 57-room property and has been licensed for 25 years. This three-star property has a multi-cuisine restaurant, bar and two banquet halls. Another opened in the temple town Kancheepuram on February 10. This is a 36-room hotel with a 90-cover vegetarian restaurant, a 50-cover non-vegetarian restaurant, permit room and banquet hall. This property has also been licensed for 25 years. Sources said the food and beverage segment is expected to cater to both tourists and business travellers. Leveraging on the location of the property in Kancheepuram, there are plans to start industrial catering to factories in the vicinity. Both these properties are being upgraded but the investment figures were not disclosed. The four-star brand the "GRT Grand", which is targeted at the corporate travellers will expand into Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Bangalore, the source said. The GRT Group has also set up the GRT Hospitality Academy to train entry-level staff, as there was a great demand at this level. Everyone who passes out of catering college these days wants to be a manager, sources said. The industry requires bellboys, housekeepers and waiters too, the source said. This Academy, which is located in T Nagar, will train personnel in front office, food and beverages and housekeeping. The GRT Hotels and Resorts, promoted by the city based jewellery house GR Thanga Maaligai, has three hotel - GRT Grand, a four-star property, is located in T Nagar, Radission GRT, a five-star hotel is located near the airport and GRT Temple Bay is a resort at Mahabalipuram, about 55 km from Chennai.
