Kerala Chamber plea on farmlands

Our Bureau

KOCHI: The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed concern over the order passed by the Ernakulam District Collector to stop registration of transactions of filled agricultural lands in the district.

The order of the Collector will adversely affect dealings of the real estate sector, which in turn would create total stagnation in the economic activity, Mr John K.Paul, President of the Chamber, said.

The unused, uncultivated lands in the city cannot be considered agricultural lands any more. Kochi can take advantage of developing these lands for commercial and residential purpose. The requirement to submit certificates from the village office to certify the nature of the land will only give room for corruption, he said.

The Chamber requested the Government to withdraw the order, which will lead to total stagnation in the industrial and commercial sector in the city.
