Airlines SriLankan to operate Mumbai-Colombo freighter service Our Bureau
Mumbai , Feb. 9 SRILANKAN Airlines has launched a freighter service between Mumbai and Colombo under its strategy to link major industrial cities in the region to the Sri Lankan capital. The weekly service, which will depart at 13.55 every Sunday, will be operated by an AN12F aircraft with a capacity of 18 tonnes of cargo. SriLankan Cargo already operates regular freighter services to Coimbatore and Bangalore. In addition, SriLankan Airlines operates 80 flights each week to nine cities in the country. An official statement said the freighter service between Mumbai and Colombo would enhance the airline's strategic objective to connect major industrial centres throughout the subcontinent with Colombo. The cargo airline has identified apparel and pharmaceuticals, spare parts, wines, milk products and other perishable goods among the key shipments. The cost structure starts at Rs 500 for a shipment up to 10 kg. Every additional kilo from 10-100 kg would cost Rs 50 per kg; Rs 45 per kg for every additional kilo between 100-500 kg; and Rs 40 per kg for every additional kilo above 500 kg.
