Mr Scott Bayman

New Delhi , Feb. 7

THE General Electric Foundation, the International Youth Foundation, and Youthreach have announced the first batch of students graduating from the pilot Life Skills for Employability Program in India. The batch of 948 students was trained in life skills through lessons on personal development, problem solving, and workplace success.

Designed to improve the work preparedness and employability of disadvantaged youth in India and Mexico, the programme was launched in 2004.

Financed by a $1.1-million grant from the GE Foundation, the initiative would also be expanded to include students in Bangalore.

Seventeen youth workers/educators have already been trained in Bangalore to teach the lessons of the LSE curricula.

Mr Scott R. Bayman, President & CEO, GE India, said: "At GE, we strive not just to have a physical presence in the areas that we operate in but to become a member, to be a stakeholder by making a difference in the many communities that we call home."
