NOBW urges Govt to restore compassionate appointments

Our Bureau

Mangalore , Feb. 5

THE National Organisation of Bank Workers' (NOBW) has urged the Government to restore the compassionate ground appointments in banks.

Addressing newspersons here, Mr Ramakrishna Punja, General Secretary of NOBW, said that the NOBW would support the United Forum of Bank Union's (UFBU) call to observe a one-day strike on March 9 in this regard.

The NOBW Central Executive Committee meeting, which was held in Bangalore on January 28 and 29, has agreed to support the one-day strike. Through this strike, the UFBU would pressure the Government and Indian Banks Association to restore the compassionate ground appointments. Apart from this, NOBW would seek withdrawal of ban on recruitment in banking industry. The banking sector should stop outsourcing activities and resort to more recruitments, he said.

Stating that the banking sector is implementing new technologies in the name of modernisation, he said the Government should conduct surveys before implementing any new technology.

The Government should initiate steps to introduce one more pension option for bank employees.

Mr Punja said that accountability should be fixed on the executives of the banks for NPAs in the industry.
