Cultivation Problem of plenty K.K. Mustafah
Paddy harvesting in progress near Thrissur. With a favourable climate in the State, paddy farmers expect a bumper crop this season. While cooperative societies procured the grains last year, the government has announced plans to procure them through the Civil Supplies Corporation this year. Farmers are wary of the corporation's "inertia" and fear that they might be forced to sell the grains to the mills at much lower prices.
