Education `Technopreneur' meet in Kochi a success Our Bureau
Kochi , Feb. 5 THE job of the IT professional is not confined to input and creation of data base, but extends to extracting useful information from a heap of seemingly unfathomable and random data. Addressing the participants at the Technopreneur 2006, organised by the Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, Dr Ravi Kothari, Scientist at the IBM Research Labs said that data mining involves digging out useful gems from the labyrinth of unconnected facts and figures. There is almost always an invisible thread that binds these facts and figures together that the IT professional should glean and dig out. Dr Kothari focused on the basics of data mining and its major application in the industry. Technopreneur 2006 was organised with the idea that innovation must lead to new creation, and then only does it have relevance. An engineer must innovate and apply his skills to fulfil the needs of the future. Dr P. Radhakrishnan, a former engineer and scientist with the Indian Space Research Organisation, gave an educative talk on avionics of manned spacecraft, with special emphasis on communication. In a workshop on hacking, the Linux guru, Mr Kalyan Varma Alluri, gave a detailed presentation on system security. The technical paper presentation attracted participants from all over India who put across their ideas articulately. A team from IIT-Madras walked away with the first prize for the event.
