Mumbai, Feb. 2 RADISSON Hotels and Resorts has tied up with Sahil Spa and Resorts for marketing and managing a spa property in Alibaug, Maharashtra. The Radisson Resort & Spa, Alibaug, that is expected to open by the year-end, will include a health club with gymnasium, a speciality ayurvedic spa and an open-air theatre and conference facilities. Mr Vinay Phadnis, Chairman and Managing Director, Sahil Resorts & Spa, said he had entered into a marketing, franchising and operating alliance with Radisson for the Alibag property, to be set up at an investment of Rs 100 crore. The alliance, initially drawn up for a period of 10 years, could be extended beyond that period. The property would be developed by Sahil Resorts and would be funded by State Bank of India and the Small Industries Development Bank of India. The Sahil group, which is basically a Pune-based real estate developers with an annual turnover of Rs 15 crore, forayed into the spa and resorts segment last year with the launch of Sahil Spa & Resorts in Lonavala. According to Mr Phadnis, the hospitality sector had grown with the increasing spending power of the domestic traveller. The Alibaug property would target professionals, industrialists and foreigners, and he expected a good response from the Mumbai and Pune markets. He added that the company had outlined a Rs 100-crore expansion programme that would see it develop spas and resorts at Rishikesh, Uttaranchal, Goa and even Sri Lanka. Mr K.B. Kachru, Executive Vice-President, South Asia, Carlson Hotels Asia-Pacific, said the group was expanding reasonably fast, adding four-five hotels in the South Asian region each year by way of franchise and management contracts. The next property in India would be a resort at Kumarakom in Kerala and promoted by a group of investors from Kenya. Singapore-based Carlson Hotels Asia-Pacific is the regional headquarters for Carlson Hotels Worldwide in the Asia-Pacific region. Carlson Hotels Worldwide, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, includes five hotel brands: Regent International Hotels, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites, and Park Inn.
