New Delhi, Feb. 1

THE Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for selection of the GMR and GVK consortiums for the modernisation programme of Delhi and Mumbai airports, respectively.

Briefing newspersons after the Cabinet meeting, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr P.R. Dasmunshi, said, "The Union Cabinet approved the bidding process as had earlier been approved by the empowered Group of Ministers."

On Tuesday, the empowered Group of Ministers had approved the selection of GMR and GVK for the modernisation programme.

Asked about the protest by sections of AAI workers, the Minister said, "The UPA Government never interferes in allowing peaceful demonstration by trade unions. There will be no disruption in air service."

Questioned on the Government response towards the proposed threat of the Anil Ambani backed Reliance's Group to move court against the process, the Minister merely said that any individual or group had their constitutional right to go to court.
