THE Coimbatore District Exporters and Importers' Association (Codexia) has asked the Union Government to lay greater emphasis on manpower training by setting up new training institutions with the help of the regional textile associations.
In a representation to the Union Minister of State for Textiles, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan, the association said there had been a perceptible shortage of shop-floor level workers needed by the industry, which calls for new thrust. It asked for the support of the Government in this direction.
The Codexia President, Mr A.M.M. Khaleel, in a submission, also appealed for extending the technology upgradation fund scheme for textile industry modernisation which is set to expire by 2007.
It has also appealed to the Centre to dispense with the need to produce Apparel Export Promotion Council registration for import of raw material or components needed by the apparel exporters as such registration is insisted by the exit ports.
