Tackling corruption

This is with reference to, "Factor in the bribe rate too," (Business Line, January 26). The article is timely and educative. Besides, recognising the menace, the Finance Minister should deal with it squarely.

Firstly, there should be clear distinction between government officials and others indulging in corruption.

If any government official is found indulging in such practices, they should be asked relieved of their responsibilities and the decision of punishment be given in a fortnight.

To start with, the above provisions must apply to all bureaucrats belonging to IAS, IPS and IRS in the Finance Ministry.

All government bodies must advertise in national news papers with names, telephone numbers of persons to be contacted by the public to give information on the corrupt practices.

M. Govardhan
