`Clean beach' drive in Vizag

Our Bureau

VISAKHAPATNAM: As the Presidential Fleet Review is to be held on February 12, the Eastern Naval Command on Sunday launched a `clean beach' campaign.

The programme was launched by Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC, Mr Sureesh Mehta, at Ramakrishna beach - the venue for the demonstration.

As many as 650 children from 10 schools and cadets from the Sea Cadet Corps participated in the drive. Children spanned out on the beach to pick up the debris that drifted on to the beach.

They were divided into four groups to clean the beach in different directions. A large number of naval officers along with their family members were also present.

The beach road is being re-laid at places to make it one clean stretch from R.K. Beach to the VUDA Park.
