Mumbai , Jan. 25

MR Narottam Sekhsaria, Managing Director of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd, has been appointed Chairman of Associated Cement Companies Ltd.

Mr Sekhsaria was earlier Deputy Chairman of ACC, and has been associated with the company for six years now.

It may be noted that Ambuja Cements India Ltd, a joint venture between Holcim and Gujarat Ambuja Cements, now holds nearly 34 per cent stake in ACC.

The board of ACC also decided to appoint Mr Paul Hugentobler, Member of the Executive Committee of Holcim, as Deputy Chairman.

Mr Tarun Das, Chairman at ACC, for the last six years has stepped down from his post.

"The ACC board has reluctantly accepted the request of Mr Tarun Das to step down as Chairman and Director of ACC," said a statement from the company.

"His chairmanship of ACC will also be remembered for bringing back the sharp focus of ACC to the core business of cement and concrete."

There have been other appointments too. Mr R.A. Shah, Senior Partner of Messrs Crawford Bayley & Co., and Dr Nirmalya Kumar, Professor, London Business School, have been appointed as Directors on the board of ACC.
