Human Resources NIIT Tech trims BPO headcount Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan.18 NIIT Technologies has reduced the headcount by 109 in business process outsourcing division , even as it posted a 36 per cent year-on-year rise in net profit at Rs 18 crore in the third quarter ended December 2005. "We have reduced the headcount in the BPO business to bring costs under control. The cut has been in the area of outbound calls, as it was not resulting in significant margins," the NIIT Technologies CEO, Mr Arvind Thakur, said here. In the second quarter, the voice business contributed 63 per cent of the BPO revenues and in the third quarter, it came down to 58 per cent, he said. The company is aiming to bring parity in the voice and non-voice business. In the third quarter, revenues were up 11 per cent year-on-year at Rs 157.4 crore, while on a sequential basis, it grew seven per cent from Rs 147.5 crore in the quarter ended September 2005. Elaborating on the company's inorganic plans, he said, "We would like to acquire a firm with revenues of $15-20 million to strengthen our focus on specific verticals."
