Essar Steel eyes higher market share for auto-grade products

New Delhi , Jan. 17

ESSAR Steel expects a market share of about 18 per cent in hot-rolled and 17 per cent in cold-rolled auto grade steel with the commissioning of its new cold-rolling unit at Hazira, the company said in a release.

Its Hazira cold rolling complex has 1.2 million tonnes annual production capacity, which includes 0.5 mt each of galvanised and annealed products.

The company's research and development centre has developed over 300 grades of steel suitable for a large range of auto ancillaries. Major applications of Essar Steel grades are for axle, wheel rim and disc, chasis member, truck bumpers and bonnets among others.

According to the company, the total market for auto grade products is pegged at about 97 lakh units with two wheelers constituting 80 per cent.
