Development vs people

This is with reference to, "No more good earth," (Business Line, January 10). The report has rightly brought out the woes of Chinese peasants. The killing of about 20 villagers who were protesting the Government's decision to seize land for a power plant is similar to the Kalinga Nagar firing on protesting tribals in Orissa. Development should not be at the cost of life and livelihood. Instead of meagre compensation, the affected people should be involved in the projects.
