GAIL's rig reaches drill site in Bay of Bengal

New Delhi , Dec. 28

GAIL (India) Ltd today said that its drilling rig "Ekha" had reached the drill site for its first well in Block-26 in the Bay of Bengal. The block had been awarded to GAIL-Gazprom consortium in the NELP-I round.

According to a company statement, with the contracted offshore jack-up drilling rig reaching the site, the drilling programme had started.

The block NEC - OSN - 97/1 is located in offshore Bay of Bengal, 120 km from the on-land base at Haldia. The well is expected to be ready in one month. The block is considered to be highly prospective with potential for multi trillion cubic Ft gas.
