Cos looking at talents from rural areas, non-metros: Survey

A STRONG hiring trend at the back of steady economic growth since last year has indicated production and marketing functions seeking more recruitment during the six-month period between November 2005 and April 2006. A new trend of companies also looking at rural areas and non-metros added flavour to provide a slight shift from the IT sector grabbing the prominence.

According to TeamLease-Gallup Outlook Survey 2005, seven metros, which also include Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, vied for talents available in the market.

The survey said 13 per cent of the 543 respondent companies were keen to hire from rural areas while 37 per cent were looking non-metro recruitment.

Recruitment at junior and middle levels was higher than at entry level and hiring for fulltime employment than part time or temporary resources was also a notable feature of the survey.

Survey used indices such as Employment outlook index, Employment trend index (ETI) Business outlook index, Business confidence index to gauge the trend.

Financial sector showed the highest growth while IT/ITES although reflected the highest trend, was more modest compared to the earlier survey. Employment trends in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai exceeded the business optimism, said the report.

The upward movement of the Team Lease-Gallup Employment Trend Index reflected the overall buoyancy and positive sentiments of the Indian corporate sector over the last one and half year period.

The Employment Trend Index for November 2005 to April 2006 shows a rise of 54 points over the previous wave, following on a robust growth anticipated between April 2005 and November 2005.
