Kolkata , Dec 27 XENITIS Infotech Pvt Ltd, which was the first in India to launch personal computers at sub-Rs 10,000, today unveiled a range of laptops under the `Xuva' brand name. Mr Santanu Ghosh, Chairman, said the laptops were assembled at the company's facility in Hooghly district. With desktop computers launched under the Aamar PC, Aamchi PC and Aapna PC brands, Xenitis has emerged the second-largest selling computer company in India. "With our Xuva range, we hope to emerge as market leaders in the laptop segment as well." Mr Ghosh said, adding that global trends indicated that multinational brands were losing ground to local brands. Besides the big cities, the company would focus on small and medium businesses, the SOHO segment and B and C class cities. The country's laptop market was estimated to grow to 7.5 lakh units in 2006, up from four lakh units in 2005, he said. The size of the laptop market in B and C class cities was growing even as the corporate sector's purchase was expected to go down from 65 per cent in 2005 to 54 per cent in 2006. "This only indicates that more and more individuals are opting for laptops, which are increasingly being looked upon as personal mobile computing solutions." Mr Tathagata Dutta, Managing Director, said the company hoped to sell "at least 10,000 Xuva laptop computers every quarter". The company, which clocked a turnover of Rs 178 crore in 2004-05, hopes to generate Rs 650 crore in 2005-06.
