FICCI award for missile scientist

DR V.K. Saraswat, distinguished missile scientist, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has been given the Individual Scientist/Technologist Award for 2004-2005 for innovation in space sciences by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Dr Saraswat, who is the Chief Controller R&D for Missile Complex and Programme Director (Air Defence (AD)), DRDO, has been responsible for the induction of India's first surface-to-surface missile `Prithvi' and its variants in the armed forces. As Programme Director of Air Defence and Director RCI, Hyderabad, he initiated number of technology development projects, in which many private industries are participating. He has also taken initiatives to realise missile systems/sub-systems from different public and private industries, from the conceptual design to the production stage.
