Bhaskar Bhat India's leading watchmaker Titan Industries believes social responsibility entails balancing and integrating economic, environmental and social imperatives, while addressing stakeholder expectations. Managing Director, Bhaskar Bhat says the company has a clearly articulated corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy and aims to go beyond mere compliance. In its latest annual report, the company states that the cascading effect of CSR is evident in several departments across the company. For example, Titan's marketing department organised `Great Titan Run' with the proceeds earmarked for NGOs. The specially developed CRY watch celebrated 25 years of the NGO through distribution at `World of Titan' showrooms. Though its products and services have little environmental impact, Titan nevertheless adheres to all legal and statutory requirements. Its environment control results are continuously monitored to meet Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and International Finance Corporation norms. Both the watches and jewellery divisions are certified under ISO 9001:2000 quality management systems standards as well as 14001 environment system standards. At the group level, Titan works closely with the Tata Council for Community Initiatives (TCCI) and other group companies in Bangalore on CSR initiatives. The company has 200 volunteers spread across Hosur, Dehradun and other regions. Their activities include working with schools (Ashraya, Bangalore and Prayas, Delhi), eye camps, village adoption, road repairs, and education counselling.
