Outlook REL to invite EPC tenders for Dadri, Shahapur power projects Our Bureau
Mumbai , Dec 18 RELIANCE Energy Ltd (REL) plans to float global tenders for EPC contracts before Christmas for its upcoming mega power projects in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and Shahapur in Maharashtra. Both projects would go online by December 2008, sources told Business Line. The land acquisition for Dadri power project work has already been initiated and REL now plans to expand it capacity from 3,740 MW to 5,500 MW. This capacity addition would entail an additional investment of Rs 3,500 crore. The total investment in the project has now been pegged at Rs 12,000 crore. The natural gas for the project would be sourced from Reliance Industries Ltd' gas fields in the Krishna Godavari basin. The project is expected to cater to the huge demand-supply gap in northern parts of the country. This area is facing a power crisis with power deficit likely to exceed to 8,000 MW in next four years. According to the sources, the Shahapur project would have a capacity of 4,000 MW for which the company has signed a MoU with the Maharashtra Government.
