Training in micro finance at Madurai
Our Correspondent
MADURAI: The need for going beyond financial perspective to make significant impact on poverty and development was stressed at an interactive session held on Wednesday by the participants of international training programmes on micro finance and micro insurance organised by the Tata-Dhan Academy here recently.
It was said that while the movement of micro financing has enabled the unorganised sector bankable and resulted in the increase of social capital, the reach has not been deep and penetrating.
While the exploitation by moneylenders has been arrested, an enabling environment and collaboration with the governments have been the felt needs to carry further successfully, it was pointed out.
The necessity of bringing all the stakeholders together was emphasised by Mr M.P. Vasimalai, Executive Director, Dhan.
Earlier, Ms A. Umarani, Chairperson Tata-Dhan Academy, outlined the features of the first international programme on micro insurance and the art of up scaling micro-finance, held for the third time in a row.
About 50 participants from Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America participated.
