Finance Ministry releases Rs 500 cr for relief work in TN

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 7

THE Finance Ministry has released Rs 500 crore on `on account' basis from the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) to Tamil Nadu for undertaking relief work in the State affected by heavy rains and floods.

The money was released in keeping with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's decision to provide immediate relief to the State, pending a detailed assessment of the damages.

Any further relief to Tamil Nadu would depend on the report of a Central team, which is assessing the damages.
