THE BJP-ruled States will take a crucial decision on the issue of implementing VAT (value added tax) at the December 12 meeting of the Chief Ministers of these States in New Delhi.
Announcing this on Tuesday, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice-President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said the States had a few objections with regard to the implementation of VAT.
While a majority of the States had entered the VAT regime on April 1, the five BJP-ruled States of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand had decided to stay away.
"As some of our objections have been answered, we would like to review our stand at the meeting, before taking a decision on the implementation of VAT," he said.
The meeting, which will be inaugurated by the party president, Mr L.K. Advani, will also discuss national issues such as infiltration from across the borders, naxalism and extremism.
