THE Annual Plan for Mizoram for 2006-07 has been fixed at Rs 758 crore, against Rs 685 crore for the current fiscal at a meeting between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Mr Zoramthanga.
The annual plan outlay includes Rs 46.85 crore of additional Central assistance for the special programmes/projects of the State. Mr Ahluwalia said the State was expected to spend nearly 85 per cent of the outlay for the period. He said the Commission would soon send a team of technical experts to help the State in tackling the problem arising out of bamboo flowering.
The State was advised to improve execution capacity, as during the next financial year fund flows under Central Government programmes, including Bharat Nirman, employment guarantee and rural electrification, were likely to increase.
The Chief Minister apprised the Commission of the new initiatives taken by the State for resource mobilisation and accelerating growth. Development of horticulture and bamboo were being given focused attention as they could catalyse the State's economy.
