Shipping Kochi port to continue with concessions on timber imports Our Bureau
Kochi , Dec. 2 CONSIDERING the positive response from the trade, the Kochi port has decided to continue with the concessions on timber to attract more consignments to the port. Consequent to the proactive steps taken by the port, timber import through the port has shown an upward trend during 2004-05. For the last two decades or so, importers have preferred to use Tuticorin and New Mangalore ports for importing timber meant for Kerala. In October 2004, the Kochi port had announced concessional rates of wharfage and land rent for storing timber. Also, permission was given to the importer/ agent to use their own equipment in the timber stacking yard.
