L&T wins Rs 1,000-cr order from ONGC

Mumbai , Nov. 30

LARSEN & Toubro (L&T) has won a turnkey order worth Rs 1,000 crore from Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for constructing four well platforms and interconnecting pipelines for the latter's Mumbai High North and Bassein fields.

This is the second major order for L&T from ONGC, a news release from the company said.

In February 2004, L&T was awarded a turnkey project valued at Rs 1,006 crore from ONGC for nine new wellhead platforms. The company was given single-point responsibility for the complete engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of the platforms.

Of the nine platforms, five platforms were delivered by L&T in April 2005 as per schedule and the rest would be delivered by February 28, 2006. It will also deliver around 30,000 tonnes of topsides and jackets for the project.

All critical features for the project currently won will be delivered from its modular fabrication facility at Hazira.

This facility is being substantially expanded to meet increased demands from ONGC and overseas clients, according to L&T.

Three of these platforms, with 6 wells each, will be of the latest `tripod' design, to be engineered by L&T-Valdel, L&T's upstream joint venture engineering company, in association with Worley Parsons of the US. The fourth platform having 9 wells will be designed to handle corrosive `sour' gas from ONGC's Bassein field.
