Schwing Stetter plans Rs 25-cr plant near Chennai

Bangalore , Nov. 29

READY-mix concrete maker Schwing Stetter plans to make India a sourcing hub for some of its products and will set up a Rs 25-crore facility near Chennai.

The Schwing Stetter Managing Director, Mr Anand Sundaresan, said at a news conference on Tuesday that the company's third manufacturing plant at Sriperambudur near Chennai will nearly double the existing capacity. It has already invested around Rs 35 crore in its facilities in Tamil Nadu.

On Tuesday, it launched new products including the 10 cc semi-trailer version transit mixer, C-version transit mixer and concrete recycling plant.

Mr Sundaresan said the third plant would be operational within six months. Current facilities have capacity to manufacture 150-180 batching plants, 400 pumps and 1,200 transit mixers every year.

He said the Indian operations would soon become a components sourcing base for its group companies. A global team from the parent company in Germany had identified India as one of the sourcing hubs for components such as forgings and castings. He said the sourcing of a single component on a trial basis had led to 40 per cent savings.

Mr Sunderasen said the ready-mix concrete market currently stood at around Rs 600 crore. It is expected to grow to around Rs 4,000 crore in four years.
