Silk Kerala promoting silk usage Our Correspondent
KOTTAYAM: The Community Silk Weaving Project introduced by Government of Kerala aims at manufacturing silk using the raw material produced in the State itself. The project, jointly implemented by Kerala State Sericultural Cooperative Federation Ltd (SERIFED) and Thiruvananthapuram Taluk Sericulture Cooperative Society at a cost of Rs 3.17 crore, will get technical and financial assistance from Central Silk Board. A survey has been completed to find out the customer's taste on silk materials. The survey was conducted interviewing 5,000 people in Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. As part of the efforts to release special brands in the markets, SERIFED will organise a silk marketing festival. Major silk manufacturers and marketing people across the countrywould participate in the meet.
