Visakhapatnam , Nov. 22

RASHTRIYA Ispat Nigam Ltd (Vizag steel plant) is ready to sign a memorandum of understanding with Gitam Engineering college here to promote industrial research and consultancy, according to Mr Y. Sivasagara Rao, Chairman and Managing Director.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a one-day seminar conducted by the college on Tuesday on testing and industrial consultancy.

Stressing on the need for greater co-ordination between academic institutions and the industry, he said the steel plant would play its part in promoting research.

"We need each other and must strive together for the industrial development of the city and region," he said.

Mr. Sivasagara Rao said that four major projects — the expansion of the capacity of the steel plant, the expansion of the capacity of the oil refinery of the HPCL, the pharma city and the special economic zone — would push Vizag into the big league apart from several IT and tourism projects coming up in the near future.

Prof S. Surya Rao, Gitam college, said that the college was rated the best among private engineering colleges in the State and therefore the industry should give it greater encouragement.

Prof. V.V. Kutumba Rao, Principal, and Prof. P.K Sarma, Director (R&D), Mr V. Seetharamaiah, Vice-President, and representatives from various local industries participated in the seminar.
