WHILE the country's crude oil production fell 7.2 per cent in October , natural gas output rose by 4 per cent during the month.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the Petroleum Ministry said the reason for the shortfall was loss of production due to a fire on a platform owned by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Mumbai High.
ONGC and other major players produced 2.68 million tonnes of crude oil in October compared with 2.88 m.t. in the corresponding month last year, the statement said.
Production from the Mumbai High fields, operated by ONGC, fell 12.8 per cent to 1.33 m.t.
For the first seven months (April-October 2005) of the current fiscal, crude oil production fell 5 per cent to 18.83 million tonnes compared with the same period last year, the statement said.
However, the natural gas output rose 4 per cent to 2,784 million cubic metres (MCM) in October and for the April-October 2005 (provisional) period, actual production stood at 18,672 MCM.
