Public Sector Banks Info-Tech - Internet Industry & Economy - Rural Development UBI to open 100 village knowledge centres Our Bureau
Kochi , Nov. 20 THE Union Bank of India is opening 100 village knowledge centres (VKC) across the country to impart knowledge to farmers and rural masses about agriculture and other activities using latest technology such as Internet, said Mr Cheriyan K.Varghese, Chairman and Managing Director. Speaking at the inauguration of VKC and Core Banking Solutions at the Nedumkandom branch of the bank in Idukki district, he said that the development of common people in rural areas would take place only by giving adequate knowledge along with the finance. With this aim, the bank is opening VKCs, he said. Training and financial support would be given to rural youth for self employment and through VKC's farmers could make use of the centre for all their needs, he said. The bank has introduced several schemes for farmers and business community; the latest ones are White Card meant for people engaged in dairy activity and Union Trade scheme meant for business people. Core Banking Solutions have been implemented in 750 branches including Nedumkandom branch.
