Greener pastures

The article `Farmers can look to greener pastures' (Business Line, November 16) suggests that the farmer sell his holding to companies with modern and technical know-how. But is it not possible to think of a better system that would bring the same benefits of modern cultivation and marketing and a better income to the farmer without him having to sell his land? Farm companies with modern management systems could be set up and the farmers made shareholders. Industries could also move to rural clusters to absorb the surplus labour.
