Union Secy visits Coir Board at Kochi

Our Bureau

KOCHI: Mr R.S. Pande, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, visited the Coir Board office here and held discussions with the Board Chairman, Mr A.C. Jose. The potential for export and domestic market of coir pith, coir geo-textiles, coir garden articles etc was discussed.

Mr Jose said that these products would enhance the income of the coconut farmers by converting coconut fibre into coir and its allied products. Mr Pande suggested joint effort by the Coconut Development Board and Coir Board in ensuring better mobilisation of coconut husk for coir industry, as only 35 per cent of the available husk is used for coir production, particularly in the non-traditional areas where coconut cultivation is being propagated.

The Coir Board Chairman suggested using coir pith as organic manure in coconut nurseries and coconut demonstration farm undertaken by the Coconut Development Board for promoting coir pith organic manure in coconut cultivation.
