No shortage of coins, says RBI

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India has clarified that there is no shortage of coins of any denomination, including of Rs 5.

According to an RBI press release, news reports that the central bank will reintroduce Rs 5 notes due to a shortage of Rs 5 coins are not true.

"There is abundant stock of coins of all denominations. In view of this, there are no plans for reintroduction of Rs 5 banknotes," said an RBI release.
