New Delhi , Oct. 31

BAJAJ Hindusthan Ltd has commenced cane-crushing operations at three of its new greenfield sugar plants in Uttar Pradesh.

This includes Bilai (Bijnore district) and two units in Muzaffarnagar district — at Thanabhavan and Budhana. Each of these three new units has a capacity of 7,000 tonnes crushed per day (TCD), said a company release.

The company is also in the process of acquiring Pratappur Sugar and Industries, with its sole sugar manufacturing plant, with a capacity of 3,200 TCD, in Deoria district in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The Pratappur plant, along with the three new sugar plants established by Bajaj Hindusthan, will augment the company's total cane crushing capacity to 57,000 TCD this year from 31,000 TCD in 2004-05. The company's total sugar production capacity will rise from 0.49 million tonnes per annum (TPA) to around 1 million TPA by September 2006, it added.

Bajaj Hindusthan has undertaken a total investment of Rs 1,150 crore between 2004-05 and 2005-06 in expanding its sugar production capacity.

It also plans to set up three more greenfield sugar plants with a total capacity of 27,000 TCD.
