Mastek to hire 1,500 this year

SOFTWARE solutions and integration services provider Mastek will recruit an estimated 1,500 people in the current year as it ramps up its operations in various areas to evolve into a company that delivers complete value-added business solutions.

The Mastek Chairperson, Mr Ashank Desai, told newspersons here the company was now ramping up its operations in key areas such as insurance and financial services and would focus on getting on board people with domain expertise.

"Our insurance business grew 90 per cent in 2003-04 and we are expecting this to get even better in the coming years as our domain expertise has been proven here,'' Mr Desai said.

The companyinaugurated its third development centre in the city, investing Rs 25 crore for a 520- seat facility. The existing two facilities currently house 220 people. "The Pune centre has built competencies in architecting solution frameworks and designing reusable components which play a vital role in the company's solutions business," Mr Sanjeev Jagtap, Head, Delivery centre, Pune, said.

"With additional capacities coming on stream we will enhance our ability to cater to strategic clients in various fields, including Government verticals," he said.

Mastek, it may be recalled, is implementing a multi-million dollar project for the UK Government's National Health Services. The company is gearing up to recruit professionals in the .Net, EAI, DW/BI skills towards the ramp-up, Mr Jagtap said.

The company's US operations have now turned around with its CEO, Mr Sudhakar Ram playing a hands-on role , according to Mr Desai, adding that business from the US had grown 20 per cent quarter-on-quarter this year.
