Brands Maker of `Tibre' trousers set to expand capacity Unveils `supercrease' pants R.Y. Narayanan
Coimbatore , Oct. 25 GANGOTRI Textiles Ltd expects to ramp up its garment manufacturing capacity from 1,000 units a day to 4,000 units a day by this time next year. The company, which markets its trousers under the `Tibre' brand, is planning to enter into shirts manufacture from next year. Speaking to newspersons here, Mr C.R. Vasudevan, President (Projects), GTL, said the company's apparel division has seen a robust growth with its `Tibre' brand garments notching a sales growth of 40 per cent since their launch five years ago. This year, the growth has been around 60 per cent so far. The number of pieces sold in the first six months of the current fiscal was around 1.25 lakh and he expected the division to close this year with sales of 2.5 lakh pieces. He said the company has embarked upon an expansion plan to have an integrated manufacturing facility at an investment of about Rs 350 crore and work on it would commence next month and would be completed by September next year. He said in view of capacity constraints, the company has not been able to reach out to the North Indian markets and also has to limit its exports to the Middle East. But once the capacity expansion was completed, it would be able to cater to the European and US markets, apart from extending its reach to all regions in the country. The company has come out with two variants of its trouser range Feather Touch and Martrix using the patented `supercrease' technology that provides permanent crease to the garment. The advantage of this technology was that the crease need not be ironed and it spared the possibility of double-crease. Feather Touch is an `ultra soft super strong trouser' available in five colours and is priced at Rs 1095 per piece. Matrix will have structural patterns and will be available in five different styles and the price range is from Rs 945 to Rs 1,295. Mr Vasudevan said the new launches would provide the comfort of cotton even while they extend the advantage of the wrinkle-free effect. He said the crease would stay for up to 100 washes and even after that it stayed and would require only light ironing.
