Pesticides Agri-Biz & Commodities - Financial Performance Rallis net profit doubles on pesticide sales Our Bureau
Dr. V.S. Sohoni, Managing Director, Rallis India Ltd.
Mumbai , Oct. 20 RALLIS India Ltd reported a 100 per cent increase in profit after tax at Rs 28.17 crore for the September 2005 quarter from Rs 14.08 crore in the year-ago period. A 20 per cent rise in pesticide sales and a gain of Rs 10.66 crore from the sale of a business unit drove profitability, the company said. Total revenue jumped up to Rs 221.46 crore from Rs 176.30 crore. Rallis has been able to grow its share in a market that witnessed a declining trend, Dr Venkatrao Sohoni, Managing Director, said. The industry saw lower sales because of low infestation and heavy rains. The market declined by Rs 250 crore to Rs 1,750 crore. He said input costs have increased putting margins under pressure. "However, we managed to control working capital, fixed and staff costs,'' he said. For the first half period, net profit rose to Rs 30.90 crore from Rs 16.17 crore on sales of Rs 343.78 (Rs 290.25 crore). Shares of Rallis moved up to Rs 300 from the previous close of Rs 290 on BSE.
