GOODWILL GESTURE: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, greets the Indian Air Force crew carrying relief material to Jammu and Kashmir for the earthquake victims in Hyderabad on Friday. - H. Satish

Hyderabad , Oct. 14

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has extended a helping hand to the earthquake victims of Jammu and Kashmir by despatching 361 tents.

According to the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the despatches were made following the request of the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Since the required tents were available only with the Andhra Pradesh Police Department, the State Government has requisitioned the tents from them by meeting the cost of Rs 47 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

The material was handed over to the Indian Airforce crew at Begumpet Airport here on Friday.

The Indian Airlines is operating special cargo flight to Srinagar free of cost. The tents despatched by the State Government would be flown to Srinagar, from where they would be sent by road to Baramullah and Uri districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the release said.

The State Government had earlier released Rs 2 crore to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to provide relief assistance to the affected areas.
