TOP executives from the automobile industry and other stakeholders will meet in Chennai on Friday to finalise a roadmap for automotive research in the country in the next five years.
The meeting, to be attended by top executives from Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors, would discuss a number of issues concerning automotive research and the areas it should cover at a brainstorming session. A roadmap would be finalised based on the recommendations.
Mr Sajid Mubashir, Director of TIFAC (Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council), told Business Line that the council had been talking to automobile players on this for long.
Mr Sajid was here to take part in a discussion on `Policy dialogue on electric vehicles in the Indian transport sector' organised at ASCI (Administrative Staff College of India) on Thursday.
TIFAC is the secretariat for CAR (Core group on Automotive Research), set up by the Government two years ago to develop a research and development culture. He said the TIFAC was working on telematics for public transportation using GSM and Wi-Fi and low-cost engine management system for two-wheelers.
