IT-enabled Services Flextronics plans to relocate back office operations to Chennai Our Bureau
FLEXTRONICS plans to move its back office operations, including financial services and human resources, to Chennai from Mexico and Hungary, according to Mr Peter Tan, President and Managing Director (Asia). The company has a back office in the city employing around 200 people, which it plans to ramp up to around 2,000 in the next two years, he told newspersons. The company will not shut down the two centres, where it has manufacturing facilities, but relocate people working in back office operations to other departments. "We want to consolidate all our back office operations and move it to Chennai." The Chennai back office centre, called Global Shared Service Centre, would be expanded in line with the company's plan of a manufacturing facility coming up at Sriperumbudur, he added. Flextronics helps customers design, build, ship, and service electronics products through a network of facilities in over 30 countries. In India, it has manufacturing facilities in Bangalore and Pondicherry, employing 600 and 100 employees, respectively.
