Pune , Oct. 5

THE Pune-based Alfa Laval has signed up Octaga Green Power and Sugar Company Ltd (OGPSCL) for erecting a 40,000 litres per day-distillery project in Maharashtra.

Talking to press persons, Mr Basab Paul, Managing Director, OGPSCL, said the project would produce anhydrous alcohol and rectified spirit.

The plant will be located in Karnoor village in Kolhapur district. The plant has been designed to process various substrates as raw materials, which include molasses, corn sorghum and rice.

He said the project is expected to go on stream by May 2006. There would be an investment of Rs 150 crore, which would help set up a complex, housing a power plant and the alcohol plant. The total power generated from these two plants would be about 17.5 MW, he added.

He said once the power plant was operational, fiscal 2007, the power would be distributed to Karnataka.

He said the investment would be part equity and part debt in the ratio of 40:60.

The alcohol plant is the first phase in the complex, the second phase would include the setting up of the power plant and the last phase, the MEG (mono ethylene glycol) plant, which is the main ingredient for plastics, he said.

Mr Paul said the distillery project would use molasses as the raw material for about 100 days a year and for the rest of the period grains would be used as raw material.

Corn and sorghum would be the raw materials for the power plant, he said. He said the distillery plant could be expanded to 60,000 litres per day.

He said the raw material, sugarcane would be sourced from Karnataka and added that the company is registered with the Maharashtra Government.
