Diamond Trading Co to hold road show for new clients

Mumbai , Oct. 5

THE London-based Diamond Trading Company (DTC) will commence a global road show on October 7 in Mumbai for customers excluding its existing clients.

DTC is the sales arm of the De Beers Group for rough diamonds. It sources its rough diamonds from De Beers' mines in Africa and through agreements with other mining companies.

The road show is to meet customers' needs other than its clients who are called `Sightholders'. DTC plans to share its strategy in areas such as diamond jewellery, supplier of choice, marketing and consumer interface initiatives.

"The event provides an opportunity for non-Sightholders to ask questions directly from the relevant DTC experts," Mr Mehul N. Shah, convener and committee member of Bharat Diamond Bourse, told Business Line.

The company currently sorts and values about two-thirds of the world's annual supply of rough diamonds. Its sales and marketing division sells its rough diamonds to clients, some of whom are the world's leading diamond traders.

The road shows are being held in other diamond centres such as Tel Aviv and Johannesburg.

" DTC is embarking on this programme in response to the requests from interested industry players to find out more what it is doing in diamond jewellery markets,'' Mr Shah said in a circular to its members.

The presentations are also designed to outline how non-Sightholders may be able to benefit from the wide range of activities DTC is running to stimulate demand and maintain consumer confidence. The presentations will be based on marketing programmes, supplier's choice and consumer confidence.
