THE Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (Bimstec) Energy Ministers' Conference is to be held here on Tuesday.
The meet is aimed at promoting optimal energy utilisation through development of new hydrocarbon and gas potentials, an official release said.
All the Bimstec members Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, besides India have confirmed participation in the meeting. The chairmanship of Bimstec rotates among the member countries and Thailand is currently chairing the initiative.
Bimstec is a sub-regional economic cooperation grouping, which was formed in Bangkok in June 1997. The energy ministers meeting assumes significance in light of the agreement signed at the Bangkok summit by the members to promote sustainable and optimal energy utilisation through development of new hydro carbon and hydro gas potentials, inter connection of electricity and natural gas grids and renewable energy technologies.
