Education Manipal Academy's new medical college inaugurated Our Bureau
Mangalore , Oct. 3 KMC International Centre the sixth medical college under Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) was inaugurated at Manipal on Monday. Inaugurating the centre, Dr H.S. Ballal, MAHE Vice-Chancellor, said that KMC International Centre is affiliated to American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine. Under the twinning programme with AUA, KMC International Centre offers MBBS and MD degree programmes. Students of the centre will have option of enrolling either at the Basic Science Campus at Antigua or at KMC campus in Manipal and completing their clinical training at the teaching hospitals in the US. Dr Ballal said that MAHE is committed to have more twinning programmes with universities of repute. Dr H. Vinod Bhat, Registrar of MAHE, who presided over the inaugural function, said MAHE would come out with more twinning programmes. From 2006, MAHE would introduce two twinning programmes in the engineering course. Stating that a twinning programme in hotel management is also on cards, he said discussions are being held with a university in Switzerland in this regard. The Associate Dean of AUA, Mr Majid Pathan, said that KMC International Centre would be the first medical college in India to follow the US syllabi. Dr Shishir Gokhale, Dean of KMC International Centre, welcomed the gathering.
