Benchmark tests under way on mFormation tool

Bangalore , Sept. 27

US-BASED mFormation Technologies has partnered with security vendors for its new mobile device management product — Security Manager.

Declining to reveal details of the partners, Mr Bhasker Sharma, Director - India Operations, mFormation Software Technologies, said benchmark tests were currently on at its Bangalore research and development centre.

Security Manager will expectedly be launched by the first half of next year.

Mobile device management software allows operators to transmit configuration settings (to enable Internet access, for example) to mobile handsets over-the-air. It also allows mobile users to download firmware (code to repair software flaws or add new functions) and software upgrades. Users can send information, such as signal strength and battery life, to operators. With such information, operators will be better able to manage and optimise networks.

The market is pegged at $1 billion worldwide.

The company is in talks with operators to try out the product, which is targeted at corporates.
